Join me on a medicinal weed walk at beautiful Bell Brook Farm in West Brookfield MA. This organic farm is home to plenty of interesting and useful wild plants in addition to the gorgeous flowers grown there!
We will explore the fields, woods and even some aquatic plants by the pond and take a peek to see what has popped up in my old medicine garden! We will discover how to identify plants, notice what ecosystems they grow in, learn their latin and folk names, discuss how herbalists harvest, prepare and use them for remedies and some interesting folklore and historical uses of each.
Please plan to arrive a few minutes before class because we will start with an important intro on the safety, ethics and sustainability considerations of foraging and wildcrafting. Bring water, sun and bug protection and wear comfortable clothes that allow you to walk through tall grass or in the woods (long pants and sleeves to prevent ticks are helpful). You are also welcome to bring a camera or notebook for documenting plants and taking notes. There is no indoor restroom available so please plan accordingly (there is a public restroom at the Dunkin Donuts on West Brookfield common) or use the woods. Parking is available along the road. Bring some money if you’d like to shop for fresh flowers in the tiny house after our walk!
The entire class will be held outdoors and class size kept small to allow for social distancing so I will not require masks be worn but please have one handy if we have to huddle up to look at a plant and of course respect others space and comfort levels.
Weed Walks are held rain or shine and refunds will not be given for ornery weather. The plants don’t go in when it rains and neither do I. I will of course cancel in the case of severe weather and a full refund will be issued or your ticket price can be rolled into another class if you choose.
Advance registration is required. Children under 12 are free (one child per paying adult please). This is my first in person class in over a year and a half so I expect it to fill up fast so don’t wait to buy a ticket! A minimum of 8 people are needed for me to run the class so bring a friend and help me spread the word!
I can’t wait to see you all in person!!!
